04 · EDITING RECORDINGS

Editing recordings

A recording is a timeline of steps you can rework — nothing is write-once.

The timeline

Every recording is a list of steps: Move, Click, Scroll, Key, Activate App and Wait. Reorder them by drag, edit any field, and enable or disable a step without deleting it — disabled steps dim and stay in the file, so you can put them back.

Adding steps

  • Type Text — type a whole string on replay instead of key-by-key, with layout-independent Unicode typing
  • Paste Text — put text on the clipboard and paste it in one step
  • Insert a Wait to pause between steps, or grab the cursor's current position for a Move or Click

Grouping and undo

  • Group steps, multi-select to delete or group in bulk, and duplicate a step or a whole block
  • Give steps optional names so a long timeline stays readable
  • Undo and redo any edit with ⌘Z and ⇧⌘Z
  • Start from scratch with File ▸ New Blank Recording
