Recording

Recordings are faithful: the actual cursor path with real timing, not a tidied-up approximation.

What gets captured

• Full cursor paths, with the true interval between events
• Every click, double-click and drag
• Scroll wheel and trackpad scrolling
• Keystrokes, including ⌘ ⌥ ⌃ ⇧ modifier state
• The frontmost app at the moment you started

Window-relative positioning

Tattletail records where each click and scroll lands inside its window, so replays follow the window when it moves or resizes and adapt across different screen setups. It falls back to plain screen coordinates when the window can't be found, and you can switch to absolute coordinates in Settings.

Password fields

macOS blocks all apps from seeing keystrokes typed into secure fields. Tattletail detects this and warns you during recording — those keystrokes simply can't be captured, by design of the OS.

If you need a password mid-flow, split the recording in two and type it yourself between passes.

Where it goes

Straight to disk, on your Mac only — owner-only and excluded from backups, since recordings can contain typed text:
